What to look for when purchasing an LED strip?
LED strips can be used in all kinds of situations. You can easily create an attractive environment with a strip, but what do you have to pay attention to if you want to buy an LED strip? The LED experts from LedLampenDirect will help you on your way with these tips!
12 OR 24 VOLT LED STRIP?
When do you choose 12 Volts and when for 24 Volts? The function of the strip is important when choosing the voltage. Because: the higher the voltage, the stronger the light. Looking for indirect lighting and do you use the strip to create an atmosphere? Then 12V is sufficient, 12V gives less Lumen (light) than 24V. 24V therefore logically gives more and stronger light and in some cases can even be used as the main lighting. Then you choose the number of LEDs on the roll: 150, 300, 600 or 900. Here it applies that more LEDs per meter, more lumen, and a more even light line.
YOU CANNOT DO WITHOUT A TRANSFORMER
It is impossible to connect the strip without a transformer. It is important to calculate in advance which transformer you need. Do this by multiplying the wattage per meter by the number of meters you want to connect. Add 20% to it and round it up. Always load the transformer to a maximum of 80% of the maximum power. This way you are sure of a long life span of the LED strip. Do you want to connect more than 6 meters with a 12V LED strip? Or more than 12 meters with a 24V LED strip? Then a potential voltage drop may occur. As a result, it can happen that the start of the strip burns brighter than the end of the LED strip. To prevent this, you can connect the strips to the transformer in parallel, feed on 2 sides or place the transformer in the middle. However, every situation is different. If in doubt, always contact one of our LED specialists.
HOW DO YOU ATTACH THE LED STRIP?
The LED strips have a strong adhesive edge on the back. This way you can easily mount the strip on any desired surface. To conduct the heat well, especially at 24V, it is advisable to place the strip in an aluminum profile. This ensures that the heat generated can be removed properly. LED has poor heat resistance. Too warm an environment shortens the life of the LED strip. And of course, you want to prevent this!
Place a cover of your choice on the profile to protect the LEDs against dirt and to be able to clean the products easily. The cover caps are available in 3 different variants, with the milky-white variant making the light line the most diffuse.
